Guwahati 2 Aug, 2026: The flood situation in Assam improved marginally on August 1 as the number of affected people fell to 1,78,837, even as the number of flood-affected districts rose from five to seven, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
No new flood-related deaths were reported during the last 24 hours, leaving the overall death toll at 82 across the state.
ASDMA said seven districts,Golaghat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Bajali, Dhemaji, Sonitpur and Jorhat continue to face the impact of flooding. The disaster has affected 20 revenue circles and 349 villages.
Although the number of affected people has declined from 1.92 lakh reported a day earlier to 1,78,837, floodwaters continue to disrupt daily life in several areas, particularly in Upper Assam.
Among the worst-hit districts, Charaideo recorded the highest number of affected residents at 75,199, followed by Sivasagar with 58,824 people still impacted by the floods.
Two rivers remained above the danger mark on Friday. The Dikhow river was flowing above the danger level at Sivasagar, while the Dhansiri (South) river crossed the danger mark at Numaligarh in Golaghat district.
Relief and rescue operations are continuing across the affected regions. At present, 44 relief camps are sheltering nearly 15,000 displaced people, while 17 relief distribution centres are providing assistance to 5,569 people.
Floodwaters have also affected agriculture, with around 15,060 hectares of cropland still submerged. According to ASDMA, 1,543 animals have been washed away, while another 6,765 livestock have been affected.
The floods have also caused damage to houses, roads, bridges, schools and cattle sheds in several locations. Authorities are continuing to assess the overall extent of the losses while relief measures remain underway in the affected districts.
